NACA teams up with Obama Foundation’s My Brothers Keeper

Recently Native American Community Academy hosted our friends from My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, an initiative launched by President Barrack Obama to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and ensure that all young people can reach their full potential. Henry Jake Foreman and Maȟpíya Black Elk of NACA Prevention ProgramsHiyupo Group, a young men’s group of different tribes and color, and Karuna Colectiva, a Youth Co-operative of Indigenous-based learning and curriculum that delivers the principles of engagement, innovation, and application have been awarded a project-based grant to create a POP-UP shop that showcases NACA students’ wares, produce, medicine, art and more. IMPORTANTLY it is a FINANCIAL LITERACY program for our NACA students focusing on INDIGENOUS models of health/wellness, entrepreneurship, and meaningful mentoring between male teachers/staff/family community members and young male indigenous and POC students. Stay tuned for more information as NACA, Karuna Colectiva and MBK move forward in collaborative efforts to reconceptualize and apply Indigenous cosmic, ecological, and spiritual knowledge in the 21st century.
